Dans Le Lys et le Flamboyant (1997), le romancier congolais Henri Lopes nous livre une écriture fondée sur l’erreur à divers niveaux. Dès le début, le narrateur métis affiche son intention de nous raconter la vie d’une grande dame de la chanson congolaise, prenant appui sur des événements historiques. Mais le texte ne cesse d’osciller entre biographie et autobiographie, entre réalité et fiction. Cette confusion entre documentaire et invention génère un éventail d’incertitudes qui guident le fil du récit. Elle s’accompagne d’une subversion de la langue française académique. Ses « incorrections », issues du contexte culturel et idéologique congolais, débouchent sur une recréation des signifiés, des connotations et du rythme du français, mise en abyme par cette musique hybride moderne : la rumba congolaise, évocatrice d’un espace-temps révolu.

Abstract :
In Le Lys et le Flamboyant (1997), the Congolese novelist Henri Lopes offers us a style of writing based on errors at various levels. From the beginning, the mixed-race narrator asserts his intention to recount the life of one of the great figures in the history of the Congolese song, drawing on historical events. But the text constantly oscillates between biography and autobiography, between reality and fiction. This interweaving of documentary and invention creates a range of uncertainties which structure the unwinding of the plot. It is reinforced by a subversive approach to the academic French language. Its “inaccuracies”, resulting from the Congolese cultural and ideological context, trigger a re-creation of meanings, connotations and the rhythm of French, embedding the modern hybrid music, the Congolese rumba, which conjures up a former space and time.
