Erreurs de sens : insignifiance et inversions dans la peinture d’Édouard Manet

Des erreurs dans la peinture d’Édouard Manet mettent en péril la vraisemblance de la scène représentée. Dérapages volontaires ou oublis du peintre, ces erreurs structurent les tableaux manétiens en accordant aux personnages un statut particulier. Manet construit un tableau qui garde la trace de ses antécédents en liant ses personnages aux modèles dont ils sont issus. Comment alors ce qui excède l’autonomie du tableau peut-il s’introduire dans l’œuvre de peinture ?

Abstract :
Errors within Edouard Manet’s painting undermine the verisimilitude of the painted scene. Whether they be deliberate sleights of hand or the artist’s oversights, such errors structure his works and grant the figures special status. Manet thus constructs works which reveal the mark of their antecedents by linking the figures to the models which inspired them. But how can that which lies outside the picture’s own autonomy make its way into the painted space?
